Committee reports were received from standing committees. W3HKK reported on upcoming January contests which include the CQ 160 meter contest at the AC8GX qth on Feb 2-3. W3HKK also proposed a worked all cooken award. After some discussion with membership, Bob was asked to put together a specific proposal to bring before the board and then general membership. Bob also discussed our obligation to fund one of the Ohio QSO Party placques we had previously committed to. He indicated that he would present the bill when received from the Mad River club who will make the placque. Eldon , W5UHQ announced that he would be starting a new net on the W8WRP UHF repeater ( 444.5 + 5.00 ) on the opposite Wednesdays that ARES is not using it. It will be at same time and will be an informal net primarily for CERT members to check out equipment but net will be open to all to do more checking on coverage and reliability of this machine located north of Jacksontown.
Eldon W5UHQ also passed out an information sheet on the cooken email reflector and cooken keepandshare and how to better use them.
A great program on ARES training was presented by EC K8NQ. Weldon passed on the direction from ARES management that members ( especially those holding any leadership roles) should try to complete the National Incident Management courses ( free on line) by the end of this year . A link on the ARES website that points to the four high priority courses is now published. The link is on http://www.licking-ares.org/Training.htm ARES also has an online course ( fees charged) called EC-001 which covers ARES specific Emcomm issues. This training replaces the three course series previously offered and received by several of the current ARES members. These courses pre-date the ICS emphasis in EMCOMM today and will likely not be recognized in the future.
