Holdmond, a chic, black-owned, indie, clean beauty brand aims at changing the game in Canada
Holdmond, a chic, black-owned, indie, clean beauty brand aims at changing the game in Canada. In the midst of a life altering pandemic and one of the largest social, political movements, spearheaded by Black Lives Matter, Holdmond is determined to establish staying power and household-name status even when life returns to normal.
Founded by professional makeup artist and beauty aficionado, Danielle Holder-Mondesire and her husband in 2012; Holdmond has been providing its customers with perfectly curated, highly pigmented cosmetics, and a rare sensory experience with their range of Pure, Simple, Luxurious natural, handcrafted clean beauty solutions and skin nutrition for the entire family. “It is exciting to see people love the products we started to formulate in our kitchen to treat the skin issues our family was encountering,” says Danielle.
“Being an entrepreneur, wife, and mom to four kids (3 biological and 1 adopted) is a juggle and it is difficult to stay motivated,” highlighted Danielle as she explained the challenges her dream to emerge as one of the top black-owned clean beauty brands in Canada has faced. “Although we launched our brand in 2012, I had to step back and focus on motherhood.
”She encourages mompreneurs not to give up: “I reimagined the brand in 2018 and relaunched in 2019, which was one of the best decisions I've ever made,” said Danielle, attributing the success of the company to her strong faith in God, the support of her husband and business partner, and her huge tight-knit family; who are not only brand ambassadors but have also been a great help in packaging and labelling products.
Despite a global health crisis and worldwide anti-racism movements, the brand has experienced a spike in sales. “This gave me the courage to launch three new products to our range of natural skin care that I formulated three years ago.”
The three new additions include the Hyaluronic Acid Luminous Glow Serum with Vitamin C, The Invigorate Superfood & Intensive Mask with Moringa, and The Luxuriant Growth Lash & Brow Serum. “I am in love with these products, they are easy to use and provide advanced self-care skincare options, in and out of quarantine!” commented Danielle enthusiastically.
“As a small black-owned beauty brand, our goal is to infiltrate the Canadian skincare market one small step at a time. We will achieve this by continuing to provide our loyal and new customers with quality and unique products, infused with exotic botanical blends, crafted in modest batches for freshness, with the finest organic and wild-crafted fair trade ingredients,“ a confident Danielle added, confirming that regardless of the skin type, current hair or scalp condition, age, gender, or ethnicity; Holdmond has a product that fits.
Hopeful that the spotlight that has been recently given to black-owned businesses will prevail and not just be a fad, as this is offering black-owned businesses an amazing opportunity, Danielle is optimistic that Holdmond can, with much tenacity and hard work, become a global black brand like their U.S. and U.K. counterparts. “I believe we are heading in the right direction” concluded Danielle.
