Tawan Bazemore & "SOUND” filmmaker, Selected for Aesthetica Short Film Festival
A Los Angeles filmmaker, Tawan Bazemore has been selected to screen his multi award-winning film SOUND at the BAFTA qualifying, ninth Aesthetica Short Film Festival.
SOUND follows photographer Isabelle Pisano (played by Crystal Porter-Bazemore), who becomes hearing-impaired after a violent car accident. As she struggles to cope something beautiful and terrifying happens.
The Aesthetica Short Film Festival will be held from 6-10 November where over 400 films and 100 industry events will be taking place. The event is dubbed the most extensive programme and festival to date.
Bazemore's love for classic and foreign cinema is evident in his films. "I love the idea of shaping a world within a frame and telling a layered story through direction and subtext. The idea for SOUND came to me during a random car ride on Los Angeles Crest Highway, where part of the film was shot. I wanted to tell a complete story without dialogue and use sound design as the Antagonist," said Bazemore.
Bazemore explains that the concept of the film was not just about a woman being subjected to deafening sounds but also about how an accident changed Isabelle’s life. He adds that the story was also meant to be positive where her scary new normal and isolation had to be presented positively through intimacy. To bring this effect, Bazemore was very careful in crafting the mood and texture, from the camera, lenses to wardrobe and production design.
Bazemore is a member of the prestigious Colourist Society International (CSI) The short film has been critically acclaimed as well as highly recommended as a masterpiece. Bazemore has also been featured in other films. In 2017, Hibiscus, a feature which he directed was picked for distribution through Amazon.
