Intertekstualność gier komputerowych z pewnością odróżnia je od innych dzieł kultury. Jednak podobny argument można wysnuć na rzecz przenikania się konkurencji i sztuki w świecie sportu. Każde wydarzenie sportowe to nie tylko zwycięstwa i porażki. Turnieje, olimpiady i mecze to ważne wydarzenia kulturalne związane z określoną estetyką, muzyką i udziałem kibiców. Trudno więc bez wątpienia stwierdzić, że esport to zupełnie nowa forma uprawiania sportu.
