It is true that the calling of God is because of God's sovereign choice and grace. No man deserves to be called. Nevertheless, a man's faithfulness must be tested and approved before he receives the crown of life.
Paul wrote this about himself:
"But I keep under my body, and bring it into subjection: lest that by any means, when I have preached to others, I myself should be a castaway." 1 Corinthians 9:27
