BIBLICAL MEDITATION

BIBLICAL MEDITATION

“Let the words of my mouth, and the meditation of my heart, be acceptable in thy sight, O LORD, my strength, and my redeemer.” Psalms 19:14

The heathen use nonsensical babblings, prayer beads and other devices to empty their minds. Then, the spirit of error fills the vacuum of a passive mind with deceptions that lead to sin and death. The yoga of the New Age Movement and the chants and counterfeit tongues of carnal Christianity bring about the same passivity of the mind and meditation that is unacceptable to God.

On the other hand, Biblical Mediation fills the active heart of the believer with understanding from above. It is pure, just and holy because it thinks about the Commandments of God and trusts the faithfulness of our Heavenly Father and His Son, Jesus Christ our Redeemer.

“My meditation of him shall be sweet: I will be glad in the LORD.” Psalms 104:34

“ …O how love I thy law! it is my meditation all the day. Psalms 119:97

The treasure in our hearts (that is expressed by our words) is Our Creator, the only true God, and His Law.

“A good man out of the good treasure of his heart bringeth forth that which is good; and an evil man out of the evil treasure of his heart bringeth forth that which is evil: for of the abundance of the heart his mouth speaketh.” Luke 6:45

Followers of Christ, we must actively reject all thoughts and reasonings that come into our minds that present a temptation to disobey God. Then, the meditation of our hearts will be of understanding; because, it is by understanding that men depart from evil. Then, like the Psalmist of old, we can say:

“My mouth shall speak of wisdom; and the meditation of my heart shall be of understanding*.” Psalms 49:3

* Job 28:28 And unto man he said, Behold, the fear of the LORD, that is wisdom; and to depart from evil is understanding.
