Philippians 4:6-7 "Don’t worry about anything, but in everything, through prayer and petition with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. (7) And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding will guard your hearts and minds in Christ Jesus."  CSB

Matthew 8:26 NLT Jesus responded, "Why are you afraid? You have so little faith!" Then he got up and rebuked the wind and waves, and suddenly there was a great calm.

 

  1. For each verse in this study (including the one above) what are we commanded or instructed to do?
  2. And what are the promises or reasons given for the commands/instructions?   
  3. Never Worry but always depend  - "Don’t worry about anything,"
    1. What are we to do when we are anxious or worrying? 
    2. Is worrying sin? 
    3. One worries because they are depending on oneself or others instead of on God. Or they don’t understand how much God loves them, how good he is, or his power for those that do Matthew 633. Show Matthew 633.
    4. Look at all the study notes
    5. Look at all of the cross references on trust
    6. 1 John 4.16  We know how much God loves us, and we have put our trust in his love. NLT 
  4. Pray About Everything - "but in everything,"
  5. Always Pray -  "through prayer and petition"
  6. Always Give thanks - "with thanksgiving,"
  7. Always Ask - "present your requests to God."
  8. If done right, then: - "(7) And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding will guard your hearts and minds in Christ Jesus."  CSB
  9. What do the following verses command and promise about praying about everything
    1. God Will Answer - Matthew 7:7 "Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you."  NIV
    2. God Cares For You - 1 Peter 5:7 "Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you."  NIV
    3. Other Condition For Peace - Philippians 4.9 (2 verses after Philippians 4:7) - "Keep putting into practice all you learned ... Then the God of peace will be with you." NLT
  10. What does Philippians 4:6 command?
  11. What does Philippians 4:7 promise?
  12. If one does not have peace what should one do?  

 

1 Peter 5:7 NLT Give all your worries and cares to God, for he cares about you.

John 14.1  Don’t let your hearts be troubled. Trust in God, and trust also in me. NLT

 

If one does not have peace after doing Phil 4:6,7,9 what should they do?
