St. Patrick's Prayer/San Patricio
St. Patrick's Prayer/ La Oración de San Patricio
St. Patrick
(387-Mar.17, 493)
was captured at age sixteen by Irish slave raiders and enslaved
for six years in Ireland. During this time he became a Christian (he had
been raised in a Christian home, but had not yet given his life to
Christ). He
escaped Ireland, studied in a
monastery, and was sent as a missionary Bishop to the Irish people (432
A.D.?), who
converted from Druidism to Christianity. The best telling of the story of
St.
Patrick is found in the book: How
the Irish Saved Civilization (Book Review).Read Patrick's
own words in his Confession,
in his Letter to
Coroticus, and in his "Breastplate"
Prayer . This version of St. Patrick's Breastplate is from the book, Celtic Prayers by Robert Van De Weyer.

I especially like these parts of the 2nd part of the prayer
I gird myself today with the power of God:
God's might to uphold me,
God's wisdom to guide me,
God's word to speak for me,
God's hand to lead me
God's shield to protect me
God's angels to save me
From the snares of the Devil,
From temptations to sin,
From all who wish me ill,
Both far and near,
Alone and with others.

I like the prayer. The translation has a misspelling, and it needs accents. I can't access to edit the prayer.

Thanks for the great Irish history. Back in those days there were many millions of white slaves, and it it very interesting to learn what he had to do to escape his slavery. Thanks for sharing
