"NINE COMMANDMENTS REPEATED" QUIBBLE
"NINE COMMANDMENTS REPEATED" QUIBBLE
"Remember the sabbath day, to keep it holy." Exodus 20:8
When people are told they must obey the seventh day sabbath commandment, they will often object with the
"NINE COMMANDMENTS REPEATED" QUIBBLE*
Actually Jesus referred to the Sabbath directly and reaffirmed it in these verses:
Luk 6:5 And he said unto them, That the Son of man is Lord also of the sabbath.
Mar 2:27 And he said unto them, The sabbath was made for man, and not man for the sabbath: Mat 12:12
How much then is a man better than a sheep? Wherefore it is lawful to do well on the sabbath days.
The idea that something must be repeated in the 27 books of the New Testament for it to be required does not hold water. For example - where in the NT do you find bestiality condemned?
On the contrary when Paul told Timothy that:
"All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: That the man of God may be perfect, thoroughly furnished unto all good works." 2 Tm 3:16
He could only have been referring to the Old Covenant since there was no New Testament as you know it for almost 300 years after the death of Jesus. Look closely at that passage and you will see Paul was referring to the "holy Scriptures" that Timothy knew as a child.
As for the Sabbath being separated from the other Ten commandments that is not possible. Jesus said:
*Mat 5:18 For verily I say unto you, Till heaven and earth pass, one jot or one tittle shall in no wise pass from the law, till all be fulfilled."
Please check the context and you will see that Jesus was expounding on the ten commandments.
James taught that the ten commandments was one law with ten parts and if you failed in one you failed in all - the integrity of God's law cannot be broken. He said:
Jam 2:10 For whosoever shall keep the whole law, and yet offend in one point, he is guilty of all. For he that said, Do not commit adultery, said also, Do not kill. Now if thou commit no adultery, yet if thou kill, thou art become a transgressor of the law.
The same One who said "Do not commit adultery" also said "Remember the Sabbath" at the same time and the same place.
