WISDOM - Proverbs 20:22
WISDOM FROM ABOVE
"Say not thou, I will recompense evil; but wait on the LORD, and he shall save thee." Proverbs 20:22
“Proverbs 20:22 I will recompense evil - Wait on the Lord; judgment is his, and his judgments are sure. In the mean time pray for the conversion of your enemy.” Adam Clarke
Those words exhorting us to wait on the Lord for His judgment of the wicked people of the world carry over to our Christian lives today. The apostle Paul said this to the church in Rome:
“Recompense to no man evil for evil. Provide things honest in the sight of all men. If it be possible, as much as lieth in you, live peaceably with all men. Dearly beloved, avenge not yourselves, but rather give place unto wrath: for it is written, Vengeance is mine; I will repay, saith the Lord.” Romans 12:17-19
GOD WILL JUDGE THE WORLD
We cannot remove the leaven from the world --and the unconverted are condemned already. In the matter of sin in the church, we must love our brother in this way:
“Thou shalt not hate thy brother in thine heart: thou shalt in any wise rebuke thy neighbour, and not suffer sin upon him. Thou shalt not avenge, nor bear any grudge against the children of thy people, but thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself: I am the LORD.” Leviticus 19:17-18
We must do everything possible to correct an erring brother; but the incorrigible must be cast out to be judged by God. Jesus said:
“Moreover if thy brother shall trespass against thee, go and tell him his fault between thee and him alone: if he shall hear thee, thou hast gained thy brother.
But if he will not hear thee, then take with thee one or two more, that in the mouth of two or three witnesses every word may be established.
And if he shall neglect to hear them, tell it unto the church: but if he neglect to hear the church, let him be unto thee as an heathen man and a publican.” Matthew 18:15-17
PAUL LIMITS OUR JUDGING TO ONLY THOSE WITHIN THE CHURCH
“But now I have written unto you not to keep company, if any man that is called a brother be a fornicator, or covetous, or an idolater, or a railer, or a drunkard, or an extortioner; with such an one no not to eat.
For what have I to do to judge them also that are without? do not ye judge them that are within?
But them that are without God judgeth. Therefore put away from among yourselves that wicked person.” 1 Corinthians 5:11-13
QUESTION; Why are so many Christians judging the world instead of themselves?
