The cost per kilometer is as low as 0.2 yuan. Would you choose a tram?

I don't know if you have noticed that, no matter what city you are in at this stage, you can almost see new energy vehicles of all sizes, including logistics vehicles. In particular, light and micro trucks have basically become one of the must-have models in the logistics of major cities. According to relevant statistics, in 2021, the annual sales of new energy logistics vehicles across the country will exceed 130,000, more than double that of 2020, far exceeding expectations.

The growth of new energy logistics vehicles howo truck is an indisputable fact, but what are the advantages and disadvantages of new energy logistics vehicles? Can the future be optimistic in the long term?

From the entry of electric vehicles into the market, to the current stage of a certain scale of application, it is clear that the public's acceptance of electric vehicles has continued to increase, including the acceptance of new energy logistics vehicles. However, from another point of view, the reason why traditional fuel vehicles are not considered fuel vehicles is also very clear.

According to a survey by a third-party agency, consumers do not buy electric vehicles for the following five reasons: low cost performance, low battery life, long charging time, imperfect charging facilities, and lack of understanding of electric vehicles. In the aspect of charging and energy replenishment, 39% of consumers complained that the charging speed is too slow, and the actual energy replenishment experience of electric vehicles is much lower than that of fuel vehicles.

Especially for electric commercial vehicles, when the transportation time is relatively high, the energy replenishment speed is too slow, which will directly affect the attendance efficiency. Therefore, energy replenishment speed, convenience and purchase cost have become important factors restricting the faster popularization of electric vehicles.

At this stage, an organization has done an interesting survey on the development of the entire electric vehicle. Among them, in 2014, 99% of consumers were unwilling to buy electric vehicles; a McKinsey survey in 2017 showed that 70% of people were unwilling to buy electric vehicles (range and charging); in 2019, a McKinsey survey showed that 45% of people were unwilling to buy Electric vehicles (insufficient charging equipment); 2020 Delek survey shows that 43% of people are unwilling to buy electric vehicles (convenience and cost-effectiveness);

Based on the above data and the development status of new energy electric vehicles, with the improvement of the technical level and the improvement of infrastructure such as charging stations, the acceptance of electric vehicles is gradually improving. Especially driven by policies, the proportion and penetration rate of new energy logistics vehicles are growing and breaking through at an alarming rate.

Pain Points of New Energy Logistics Vehicles: Endurance and Energy Replenishment

What are the pain points and advantages of new energy logistics vehicles? Recently, we conducted a survey on the users of micro-face and light trucks in Chengdu. First, in terms of disadvantages, there are the following problems.

Endurance limits the combat radius: According to the actual visits, most drivers have reported a problem that the endurance anxiety of new energy logistics vehicles is common. Taking an electric light truck with a battery pack capacity of 98 kWh as an example, the daily goods are mainly daily necessities, hardware and building materials. Without turning on the air conditioner, the battery life is about 230 kilometers in summer and only 190 kilometers in winter.

Among the driver groups we visited, most drivers reported that when the basic model has 30% of the battery remaining, they should consider charging, worrying that the car will be left on the road if they continue to drive. Among them, a micro-face driver reported that some models may limit the output of the motor when the remaining 20% or even 30% of the power is left, and cannot continue to drive goods.

Excessive energy replenishment time: At this stage, most light trucks and micro-face pure electric vehicles are designed with a fast charging function, and the basic charging time can be charged to more than 80% within 1-2 hours. However, the charging time is still too long compared to the state where the fuel car can be filled up in a few minutes.

In particular, for retail customer transportation, the matching time of supply sources is not fixed, and some transportation requirements are relatively high, and the charging time is too long, which will have a certain degree of impact. For groups such as fleets and companies, due to the relatively fixed supply of goods and departure times, it is possible to reasonably avoid the charging stop time through shift planning.

Difficulty queuing for charging: During our actual visit, both micro-face and light truck retail customers said that the problem of queuing and charging is common at this stage, especially in some of the more popular logistics distribution centers, the charging position is very difficult” grab".

There are two reasons for the difficulty of queuing for charging. First, although the new energy charging stations have basically achieved full coverage in the Chengdu area at this stage, and are constantly being built, but the proportion of new energy cars is gradually increasing at this stage, and some charging stations are still not available. too much. In addition, some freight drivers reported that due to the tight parking position of some cars and the wider light truck models, even if there are charging piles, they often cannot "squeeze" in.

Secondly, the corresponding electricity price of the charging network is also different in different time periods. Taking the Chengdu area as an example, charging at night is generally 0.4-0.5 yuan/kWh, but the electricity price is as high as 0.9-1.5 yuan/kWh in the morning and afternoon peak hours, and the difference between nighttime and daytime is as much as 2 times. Because of this, the charging position is relatively tight at night when electricity prices are relatively cheap and during the period of 12:00-2:00 noon.

Obvious advantages, no fear of emissions, saving money, and having the right of way

New energy has pain points, but it has absolute advantages, and it is precisely because of these advantages that new energy logistics vehicles are created. Combined with the country's dual carbon goals and relevant policies for green development, the future energy structure of automobiles must be transformed towards green energy. The advantages of new energy logistics vehicles are mainly reflected in the following aspects:

At this stage, most cities have given different levels of support policies for new energy vehicles. The first is the right of way. Basically, pure electric vehicles are not limited to morning and evening peaks and traffic restrictions, and urban traffic has great advantages. In addition, some areas have also introduced related policies for free parking fees. This is the biggest advantage and one of the core advantages of new energy logistics vehicles.

Second, the operating cost per kilometer is lower. According to our visit and understanding, for the micro-face, a 40 kWh micro-face, the vehicle is fully charged at night, only about 20 yuan, and the summer cruising range is about 160 kilometers, that is to say, the operating cost per kilometer is 0.125 yuan/km .

In the actual visit, a pure electric 4.2-meter light truck with a battery pack capacity of 98 kWh costs about 48 yuan to fully charge at night, and the comprehensive cruising range is about 220 kilometers. Simple conversion can be obtained, and the operating cost is about 0.22 yuan/km. For general fuel light trucks, the operating cost per kilometer is about 0.7-1.1 yuan per kilometer. Today, when oil prices are soaring, the operating cost per kilometer is relatively higher.

Obviously, in terms of operating costs alone, new energy vehicles have great advantages. However, the accounting cost cannot only be calculated as the operating cost. The purchase cost of new energy is generally higher than that of fuel light trucks. Taking a fuel light truck of about 4 meters 2 as an example, the purchase cost of the National VI is about 120,000, and the new energy model needs about 180,000. In contrast, the purchase is much more expensive.

As mentioned above, new energy vehicles have more advantages than pain points. For most of our card friends, whether it is purchasing new energy vehicles or fuel vehicles, we must not blindly follow the trend. From the perspective of the use of pure electric light trucks, if you are in a first-tier city, and the transportation route is mainly urban, and there is no need for long-distance combat, then congratulations, you can be a green pioneer, pure electric vehicles are indeed for a good choice.
