Measuring Wellness

Every January, many people set resolutions to improve their health. I would like to share some research that I have found very helpful in my journey to wellness.
Would you be interested in knowing how you can actually measure your wellness and allow you to predict your future health and longevity?
Your results from a fasting lipid profile, or cholesterol blood test, can be used to calculate a triglycerides to HDL ratio (TG/HDL). If in Canada, multiply this ratio by a factor of 2.3 (converts from metric) to get the value to interpret, using the table below, your risk for developing chronic disease.*

Research has shown that the TG/HDL ratio is a significantly better predictor of future heart disease than total cholesterol. In fact, authors in one study** were surprised by a major new finding that with a TG/HDL ratio < 1.7; the risk of heart attack is low even in men with major risk factors like high blood pressure, high LDL cholesterol, little physical activity or being a smoker.
Guided by the results from my annual cholesterol test and changing some daily habits, I was able to improve my TG/HDL ratio from 2.2 (Oct 2018), to 1.3 (Oct 2019), to 0.7 in Oct 2020. I also found the results from a 2007 cholesterol test and was stunned after calculating my ratio at 5.4! It meant that I had a chronic disease at that time, probably cardiovascular, though it was undiagnosed.
I cannot describe the feelings of relief and peace of mind after getting my TG/ HDL ratio well below 1.7 because, in 2010, a DNA test showed that I have a 4- fold higher risk of heart attack due to overproduction of inflammatory IL-1 cytokines.

One of the daily habits I changed was adding high-dose Nutrilite Heart Health Omega-3 (~ 4 grams = 2 caps 3x/day) to my supplement regime. This dose was recommended by medical experts knowledgeable in the use of high-dose fish oil. Doses over 3 grams per day effectively reduce TG and increase HDL levels; a very easy way to improve my TG/HDL ratio. Since adding omega-3s, my blood pressure is lower and my dry eye symptoms have resolved.
Almost 96% have a cardio-deficient omega-3 status, without even knowing it.***
In 2012, 55,000 cardiac deaths were linked to a dietary intake of omega-3 that was below the cardio-protective level of 250 mg/day.****
I hope this information is helpful. Now you understand why I share it with anyone interested in achieving similar results that may improve their 'health destiny’.
