Tip: When things are really a mess, boot to Windows Safe Mode (press F8 when booting) and run AVG 8. As do other AV programs, it will then scan using the command line interface with no nasty services running that might interfere.
How to turn on Windows 2 way Firewall
No desktop should be without a personal firewall, but even if the Security Center says you're protected, you may not be. The Windows Firewall within Vista blocks all incoming traffic that might be malicious or suspicious--and that's good. But outbound protection is not enabled by default. That's a dangerous situation if some new malicious software finds its way onto your PC. Microsoft did include the tools for Windows Vista to have a true two-way firewall, but finding the setting is a little complicated. (Hint: Don't go looking the Windows Firewall settings dialog box.)
To get two-way Firewall protection in Windows Vista, click on the Start button; in the search space, type wf.msc and press Enter. Click on the Windows Firewall with Advanced Security icon. This management interface displays the inbound and outbound rules. Click on Windows Firewalls Properties. You should now see a dialog box with several tabs. For each profile--Domain, Private, and Public--change the setting to Block, and then click OK. Secure Your Vista PC in 10 Easy Steps

This may be a good time to invoke expert help directly. Go to www.spywarewarrior.com, www.temerc.com, or one of the other security sites that hosts HijackThis! help. Download the HijackThis! program, run it, and save a log. DO NOT delete anything until advised to do so. Back at the site where you downloaded the program, find the corresponding discussion forum and post your log. Someone there will review the log and give you very specific advice. They'll probably have you run HJT again afterward and post the new log - it can take several cycles of removal. But you should end up with a squeaky-clean system.
