PTE Academic: A Complete Guide to the Test

What is PTE?

The Pearson Test of English is the full name of the test. The University of London Schools Examination Board first offered PTE General in 1982. In 1996, the Examination Board merged with the Business and Technological Council (BTEC) to form Edexcel, the UK's largest academic and vocational examining authority. The PTE Academic exam is a computer-based English language examination that is approved by universities all around the world. PTE-Academic is an English test taken by students and aspirants who wish to study in another country or immigrate to one of the major English-speaking countries. Students are required to take the PTE exam to verify their proficiency in the English language.

More than a decade ago, the PTE exam was redesigned to become the most secure, dependable, and accurate test of English language skills. PTE is now used by over 3,000 colleges, universities, and professional organizations to certify their candidates' English competence. PTE is accepted as proof of English for all visa levels by notable English-speaking nations like Australia, New Zealand, and the United Kingdom.

Types of PTE Exam

Pearson Language Tests is in charge of administering three types of English proficiency tests to assess the English language skills of non-native English speakers. The three tests are as follows:

PTE Academic- The PTE Academic exam is taken by students who want to apply to universities. The PTE Academic exam scores are valid for two years.

PTE Academic UKVI- This is a reasonable and practical option for applicants seeking to work, study, or reside in the United Kingdom. Candidates should note that the PTE Academic UKVI exam has no differences in content or format from the PTE Academic exam. There are a few minor variations in the registration process, though.

PTE Home- The English tests are divided into three categories: PTE Home A1, PTE Home A2, and PTE Home B1. Candidates can use this format when applying for various family and work visas.

Requirements and Test Format

Candidates should keep in mind that the PTE examination's syllabus and exam pattern complement each other. The exam is organized into three activities on a larger scale. They're -

  • Question: while reading the text promptly, candidates can measure the length of the text in words or sentences. Candidates need to be active and concentrated in this part.
  • Prepare for Answer: here candidates do not have to immediately answer the questions. On average, candidates can get 10 to 15 seconds to prepare for each segment. At this stage, students can relax and think for a while regarding how to answer.
  • Answer: the answers are recorded while speaking or writing.

Syllabus

There are no specific subjects or segments to remember for the exam because the syllabus covers all themes that are used to assess a candidate's English language proficiency. Students will respond in accordance with the instructions for providing answers based on the paragraphs displayed on the screen.

Registration Time and Result

Test takers will have two hours to complete the exam and will receive their results within 48 hours. Candidates can also select from a variety of exam dates and arrange last-minute appointments. Candidates can apply for the PTE exam with a deposit of $200 USD for both the online and offline modes of the exam.

The PTE scoreboard is shown in the table below. The score was compared to the IELTS score for a better comparison.

PTE Academic provides a transparent ensuring an easy to understand scoring. After taking the test candidates will receive an overall English score. They can also see the individual performance in these segments-

  • Grammar score
  • Spelling score
  • Oral Fluency score
  • Vocabulary score
  • Written Discourse score

How The Total Score Is Evaluated?

Grammar, oral fluency, pronunciation, spelling, vocabulary, and writing discourse are all assessed on the PTE. These have a range of scores from 10 to 90. The average of enabling skills is computed by summing the points earned in all of these skills and then dividing by 6, the number of skills listed above.

Universities frequently have a low PTE score requirement of 65, which is the lowest PTE score requirement. Even a score of 50 can get an applicant admitted to a university at the undergraduate level. As a worldwide recognized exam, PTE is extremely competitive, which is why it is one of the most difficult languages proficiency exams to pass, with a score of 50 being extremely difficult to get.

To do well in the PTE, candidates must prepare and practice extensively. Because PTE results can only be accepted if they are less than two years old, the English Language test report should be valid as of the course's start date.

Pearson Test of English- PTE mock test

Candidates who want to get a good score on the PTE exam should take a practice test before taking the real test. Because the test is so expensive, candidates can save money and time by taking the original exam and getting an overall evaluation before taking the final exam.

AHZ Associates is a well-known PTE-certified facility in Bangladesh, where candidates can study for the exam with clear instructions. Depending on the needs of the candidates, the institution often conducts mock and original tests.
