Are you living in an earthquake prone area? Well, you need to know the emergency procedures to do in the event of one. Here are a few things you need to keep in mind when the shaking begins. If you're indoors, you should do the following.
First, drop down to the floor, cover yourself and stay calm. Make sure that you don't drop down to near a strong desk or upholstery that can be moved by the earthquake.
Stay away from windows, mirrors, hanging objects, tall furniture such as bookshelves, cabinets with heavy objects or large appliances
If the shaking is too strong, don't try to run out of the house
Stay away from buildings especially those made from glass because it doesn't fall straight and you might get injured in the process.
If you're in bed, don't get out. Cover your head with a pillow
Avoid elevators
If you're in a wheelchairs, you should lock the wheels then cover your head
If you're outdoors, you should do the following.
Move to a clear area without any power lines, trees or buildings, as long as you can walk safely.
If you're driving on the road when the shaking starts, you should pull over to the side and stop your engine. Don't stop the car under any hazards as those mentioned above
If you're in the beach, you should look for a higher ground and move there because earthquakes can also cause tsunamis.
What To Do After The Earthquake
Look around to see if anybody is injured and provide first aid where necessary. However, don't move anybody who has serious injuries.
If you smell gas, turn off your gas before it blows
On the other hand, if you're trapped under debris make very little movements to avoid kicking up the dust. Cover your mouth and nose as well. Tap on
