Hi, again. With most of the plumbing and insulation in the next step was putting up the drywall. Here's where we closed up the garage.
This is the view from the front door, down the hall and into the new room.
We used mold resistant drywall in the bath area.
The old opening to the garage was closed off and we put back the cut-outs we had made to install insulation. That square area to the upper right surrounds the hot water heater and the walls were not insulated in the original build. We installed the heater's thermostat on one of those walls after Sue stuffed them with insulation.
Putting up drywall finally defines the space. Here is the cubby area between the room's entrance and the new bath to the left.
I wanted the drywall up on the inside of the bath to easily line up the tub fixtures. Then this section of drywall behind the tub had to wait until I got those tub fixtures installed. Getting the parts to make it work took a whole morning - a long story - but in the end the fixtures are in place, properly braced and working.
Here's the main control valve from the back. The center pipe goes up to the shower head.
This is the pipe coming down to supply the tub spigot. These parts, and the hook-up to the spout itself, caused half of the delay.
And here it is all set to go. We'll have to take it all off again to put up the tub surround, but that won't be a problem. With all the drywall up, you can see Sue's begun working on the mudding.
It's looking pretty good.
Here's the mud in the main room.
And the last piece of drywall behind the tub went up.
The view from the new room down the hall to the front door. Our new flooring will go all the way to that front door.
The mudding is not yet done. We need to sand the first coat, put on a second and then sand that. Here's where the bath will get a tile floor. Too bad we lost a day Monday due to the snow . . . and Tuesday is looking iffy too.
Bonus
Monday morning we woke up to 4-6 inches of the white stuff. For the first time since our arrival in 1993, we had enough for a snow drift! It's true, look to the lower right - the snow clearly drifted from the deck to the sidewalk!!
It did pile up.
The front sidewalk is buried too. Some folks drove in and out on the road, lord knows where they were going.
The back door only opened this far, so that's as far as I got outside.
The hills at Bri's house would be a real challenge.
Our poor truck didn't move all day.
We don't have a snow shovel and driving on it will just turn it to ice so we're hoping that warmer weather (and some sun) shows up soon. Everyone be careful out there.
