Bri's Basement, Part 3 Ceilings, Floors and Fixtures
I left y'all last with us putting up the drywall and mud. No, this pix isn't from sanding the plaster; it's my camera freezing up from the cold. I'd left it in the garage. We continued on, regardless.
The electric heaters kept it warm in the new rooms, so after the mud came the paint.
The heater in the bath fit neatly behind the door. We added a doorstop that keeps the door a few inches clear.
The room looked pretty good with a coat of color.
The half bath upstairs had a leaking toilet. Guess that was my fault when I tiled the bath a few years ago. A square foot of the flooring had rotted. Here I replaced the bad stuff with a piece of MDF, properly braced and glued in place. Of course we fixed the problem upstairs.
I also added a 4" vent to the outside for the bath fan.
Here's a shot of our bracing for the tub surround. The flat panels went up easy but the two corner pieces needed some help to stay in place while the mastic set up.
Then it was on to the ceilings. First up was the channel on the walls with lots of inside and outside corners.
Then we add the main beams and cross tees. Full tiles then go in to insure the whole shabang is square.
In the bath we installed the bath vent fan and light.
And here's the fan/light in place with the bath ceiling finished up.
We used the same inset tile as we used at the boy's place and it looks just as good here.
We added a light fixture in the cubby ceiling.
And a nice fan in the center of the main room.
Adding the light fixture over the bath was a pain because the base of the fixture wasn't big enough to completely cover the 'add-on' style electrical box. So we got creative and I ended up cutting the box down in size.
Then came installing the toilet, vanity and the mirror over the vanity.
We used mirror mastic with tape and wooden blocks to hold it til the mastic set up. Say cheese!
Next came the flooring. Bri picked a nice laminate. Here we got it under the door moldings on both sides and the front plus turning a corner.
The main bedroom looked nice.
We got the hall under both sides of the doorway plus the fronts and backs too. It wasn't easy and we had to recut some boards but it looked good in the end.
The view from the front door confirms it.
I'll end part 3 here and finish up in the next segment. Check it out.
