A friend of a friend is moving to Little Rock and asked me to fix a couple of things to help get their house ready for sale. This included changing out three faucets, a garbage disposal, fixing a wood floor and painting a kitchen ceiling.
Sue and I began by doing some window shopping and emailing the homeowners with their options and all up costs.
They liked what they saw, bought the materials and I got started.

A leaking door ruined a couple of boards. The boards will need replacing, and something needs to be done about that leak.
The old disposal had a pea sized hole knocked in the grinding chamber.
Putting the new one in was my first task. And it actually went in pretty easily.
Here's a sample of the original twenty year old faucets.
Whoever put them in sure used a lot of plumbers putty.
After cleaning up the sink, the new ones looked a lot better. But the second one I put in didn't match the first - it was a different finish. The lady of the house noticed, so I took it out and she went and got the right ones.
And, yes, I even got through this little opening to get one of them done.
The homeowner had done a big patch in the ceiling right in front of the light fixture. Hopefully some sealer and paint will cover it all up.
I started by taping off the boarder and putting on a coat of Kilz2 sealer.
I opened the can of ceiling paint and got a surprize. It was pink! Turns out the color was an aid to getting an even coverage, it dried a pure white.
I found one of the reasons for the ruined floor when we got over two inches of rain. The window in the door leaked pretty good.
The next day I pulled up the ruined boards and took the mullion off the inside of the door.
I caulked all around the glass. It took over three tubes to fill that big gap all the way around.
Then I fiddled with the dishwasher and it flooded the kitchen. No points for quessing what my advice was to the homeowners.
So right now everything is done except that wood in front of the door. That will have to wait until the subfloor dries out. Like in about a week. Hey, I got paid for it all anyway!
CONTINUED . . .
A week later things had dried out, even though we did have some more rain. So I guess I fixed the leak. Here I've replaced the ruined oak flooring. The sanding and staining will be left for the floor refinishers the homeowner is going to call in.
The downstairs half bath has a pedestal sink . . .
. . . and it needs a few faucet set too. So I put one in, but forgot to get a pic!
The homeowners also bought a new dishwasher and asked me to put it in. The central pipe here is the drain and the lowest valve is the shutoff. The shutoff didn't. It leaked. Plus, the old drain didn't fit the new hose and the old hose didn't fit the new dishwasher. So what else is new?
I had to level the floor under the counter with oak slats for the rear wheels to rest on to get the new dishwash to fit properly.
The electrical is always a pain-in-the--- on a dishwasher.
But it worked fine in the end and I made a few extra bucks.
