OREGON TRIP PART 5
OREGON PART 5
Rose and Hannah, the pool sharks! The pool table was one of the favorite activities for the grand kids. It was always occupied durting free times.
Another favorite was the Foosball table.
Another pool shark
Hannah and Sara lived in the room across the hall from our room, and on the last night, they invited Rose to come and sleep over in their room. It worked out very well and a good time was had by all, according to reports.
After loading the van we departed all our wonderful Elderhostel friends and headed back to Portland. We checked back into our Holiday Inn Express, had a good rest and then went out for a great Italian dinner. We also scouted the train station to make sure that there was a good parking facility, which we discovered.
Here we are at the Portland Train Station, ready to board our 9:45 AM train to Seattle. We got two seats facing a table, and since the train was full, we shared it with a very nice young man.
Our train pulled into King Street station shortly after noon, and, as pre-arranged. we are to meet Greg, a great friend of Robert, and his son, Jackson. They were there waiting for us, and all of the following photos in Seattle were taken by Greg.
Here we come along the platform!
Here is a nice photo of Jackson, who has been a close pal of Rose for many years. He is a really smart and lively guy who is great fun to be with.
Greg drove us to the Seattle Space Needle, and we made reservations for lunch there. We toured the viewing platforms while waiting.
As you can see, the day was very beautiful. We are so happy that it was not raining, which, as you probably know, happens pretty often in Seattle.
Now we are at the restaurant on the Space Needle. It turns around, I guess making a revolution about every 45 minutes. Here is the joint where the moving restaurant (the carpet) meets the non moving part (the tile). They loved to stand with one foot on the moving part and one on the stationary part.
"I'm having great fun"
She is about to split!
After lunch we went down to earth level and visited some of the science type exhibits that were in buildings that had been built for the world's fair that was held there in the early 60's. Here they are trying different generations of armored vests.
Here Rose tries the bed of nails!
Now Jackson gives it the test.
Ho Ho, doesn't she look strange!
Here he is suspended in air. Of course it is done with mirrors!
This is a sample television studio where the weatherman does his thing. Rose is doing a great job, pointing to the weather map that is electronically behind her instead of the green background.
