THE NAME OF THE MESSIAH

Today, the people of God are experiencing much confusion and division over the name of the Messiah.  Are we not forgetting something? 

Neither “Yahushua” nor  “Jesus” was the personal name of the Messiah in His pre-incarnate state.  The Messiah was first called Yahushua/Jesus* by His earthly parents.  Yahushua/Jesus was the name given to the child of Mary by Joseph  as instructed by the Angel.

“And she shall bring forth a son, and thou shalt call his name JESUS: for he shall save his people from their sins.”  Mat 1:21

“And knew her not till she had brought forth her firstborn son: and he called his name JESUS.”  Mat 1:25

WHAT IS THE TRUE NAME OF THE MESSIAH? 

Actually the Scriptures state that NO MAN knew the Messiah's name!

“His eyes were as a flame of fire, and on his head were many crowns; and he had a name written, *that no man knew,* but he himself.”  Rev 19:12

*Is it “Emmanuel“

“Behold, a virgin shall be with child, and shall bring forth a son, and *they shall call his name Emmanuel,*  which being interpreted is, God with us.”  Mat 1:23
 
*Is it "The Word of God"

“And he was clothed with a vesture dipped in blood: and his name is called *The Word of God.*”  Rev 19:13

*Is it "King of Kings and Lord of Lords“

“And he hath on his vesture and on his thigh a name written, *KING OF KINGS, AND LORD OF LORDS.*”  Rev 19:16

The answer to all of those questions is "YES!"   They all refer to the "name" of the Messiah.

Much of the confusion over the personal name of the Messiah comes from the concept that when we see the word "name"  we assume it means "the personal name".

In reality, the word "name" in English, Greek or Hebrew *could* refer to the personal name --but it can also be speaking of the authority or character of someone.   For example:

GREEK  Strongs definition:    "onoma"  a “name” (literally or figuratively), (authority, character): -

HEBREW Strongs definition:   "shame"  an appellation, as a mark or memorial of individuality; by implication honor, authority, character: -  + base, [in-]

ENGLISH  Webster's 1826 -  The English word "name"

4. Reputation; character; that which is commonly said of a person; as a good name; a bad name.

8. Authority; behalf; part; as in the name of the people. When a man speaks or acts in the name of another, he does it by their authority or in their behalf, as their representative.

 Each time we see the word "name" used in Scripture in reference to the Messiah, or the Father, we must decide if it refers to the personal name or to His Authority and/or  Character.

For example, Romans 10:13 reads:  “For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.”  Unfortunately, that verse is often interpreted to mean if we call upon the personal name of Yahushua/Jesus we will be saved.

If we  stop and think, it is obvious that the word "name" could not possibly refer to the personal name of the Messiah.   Rather, it refers to the *authority*  of the Messiah.   That is:  if we call upon the authority (name) of Yahushua/Jesus we will be saved.  (rescued)

If  the word "name" in "...whosoever shall call upon the NAME..." refers  specifically to the personal name of the Messiah, then NO ONE WHO USED THE WRONG NAME COULD BE SAVED.

On the contrary, our relationship with our Creator depends upon the intent of our heart, not phonetics.
