4 An Amazing Ways To Use Public Transportation Mindfully
Public transportation is a convenient way to get around town which is much greener than driving. We often forget the benefits of travelling with other people and choose to drive on our own. If environmental concerns aren't enough to cause you to take public transport, here are some other reasons why NOT driving might be a good idea.
Meditation is an excellent opportunity to unwind.
Because you won't have to worry about the chaos on the roads, your time with public transportation could double as time to meditate. It is possible to improve the concentration of your mind to be able to block out all noises and movements. Pay attention to the sensations of your body as you ride. What muscles do you use automatically, but not fully aware of? Dr. John Kaplan explains more on this subject in his YouTube video "Subway Meditation" (see below). You can get more information on public transportation by browsing http://www.theguardian.com/cities/2014/may/22/amazon-futuristic-new-downtown-seattle-hq-microsoft-nintendo site.
Awareness of the surroundings through awareness and mindfulness
Transport can help you focus more on what's going on around and within you even if you're not paying too much attention to driving. Pay attention to your surroundings and the effect they can have on your emotions and senses. For example, noticing the sun's reflection on green grass can be an amazing experience, but only when you remember to give the sun your complete focus. Commuting on public transportation may be a great time to think about. In this environment, in the company of others it is possible to contemplate life on a larger scale and gain an outside view of the world.
Engage socially
We are reluctant to talk to strangers in public spaces because of an unfounded fear that we could make an impression or look foolish. This is the reason we choose to drive alone. However, don't worry; we are social beings and enjoy being with others. Public transportation provides us with an opportunity to connect with other travelers. Heighten your mindfulness by talking to someone new.
Breathe
You can practice breathing exercises in a peaceful train, subway or bus. It is a great way to start mindful awareness for the day by paying attention to the way you breathe. Breathing deeply is a wonderful method to relax your body and bring you home safely.
Public transportation offers numerous environmental advantages. It is also more efficient in fitting mindfulness into hectic schedules. Buses, streetcars, trains or subways are all excellent options when it comes to public transportation. Carpooling could be an alternative, as that your carpoolers do not mind your attention elsewhere at moments. Stop driving every now and then. Be mindful of the environment and help it.
