Looking Up

After removing the door, the homeowners decided I could continue on and paint the ceiling.  After fixing it, of course.

They decided that their son could repaint the walls.

All the woodwork would need to be masked off.

That's a stairway down to the basement in the corner of the living room.  Made working on the ceiling above a bit of a challenge.

First aside . . .

The big rain knocked down all the fall leaves here.

They still made a pretty picture.

The joints where the flat ceiling meet the slopped areas had a number of cracks and joint tape separations.  They'd taken thirty years to develop, so it wasn't a big problem, just pulling down the loose stuff and re-plastering the joints was all that was needed.

I also patched a  couple of wall problems. I tried plaster over the arched window but it wouldn't hold.  There was no 2x4 behind a section of the wallboard joint. I ended up using epoxy filler.

The next project here might involve removing the big window under the arched one and replacing it with a french door.

Second Aside . . .

At home a couple of days ago, I pointed out this wierd cloud formation to Trav.  This pic is not upside down.  The rainbow is upside down.

The coulds were high and the sun was low, so we have an inverted rainbow.

The rainbow disappeared as the cloud moved. The vertical cloud here was plowing into the horizontial one and was getting blown away.

Notice the funnel in the vertical part? It was slowly spinning as the two merged.  Looked kinda neat.

Back at work, I was able to use my 8' and 6' step ladders to get all the masking tape in place.

Then I borrowed the homeowners short extension ladder to reach the area over the stairs.

Plenty of plastic and old sheets were used to protect the homeowners walls and woodwork.

The off-white paint is up.  I used a small artist's brush on the ceiling over the stone fireplace.  It certainly looks good to me.

Final Aside . . .

The grandfolks babysat last week, so here are a few pix.

Reagan ate lunch while Grandpa and Isaac played with some dice.

Isaac's got a wicked throw.

Grandma took these pix and they turned out pretty nice.

Reagan likes to get into Grandma's poker stuff.

She even likes to pick it up afterwards.

Well, so long for now.

Take care.
