Bri's Basement, Part 4 Finishing up and then . . .
Adding baseboard and quarter round makes the floorings and walls complete.
Sue got all the moldings painted, including the newly cut ends shown here.
I finished up the door to the under stairs storage area by adding doorstop moldings.
We also removed the beat up old door moldings here, patched up the door frames and put on new trim.
Bri's entry area was covered with glued down wooden planks. Removing them was a pain but . . .
Running the laminate all the way to the front door made the area look much better.
A sample of our completed molding work. Looking good.
The hall and bedroom floors were run in different directions with a transition across the archway.
The bathroom got fitted out with towel bars and a shower rod.
We used a sanded caulk between the tub and tile. And we caulked the joints in the tub surround too, although we had to caulk it twice as the first batch of caulk was too old and didn't set up.
The rest of the bath looked good too.
That short wall finally got its shelf board. We made it up with rounded edges and corner at home and then cut it to fit at Bri's.
Sue brought out a new rug Bri bought to add a touch of color.
We also brought over Bri's bed from our house. And we cleaned up and moved in a dresser from Bri's garage.
A couple of drawers needed new drawer guides, which I made back at home, but it all looks good.
The cubby area even looks good. For whatever they decide to use it for.
Baxter, Chris' dog, keeps us company in the hallway . . .
While Bri's dog, Morgan, camps out on the landing.
Ok, now compare this shot to . . .
The first step was a through sanding to remove all that paint, glue and crud you saw in the previous pic. Then we added new ply to cover all the risers. It looks better already.
The stepped landing toward the top of the stairs got covered in oak ply. We also had to make and then add a stair-nose to each of the landing steps.
With the prep work done, we stained and finished each step to match the new flooring.
And the garage side finally got its second coat of mud. Its kinda crowded in there, but we manage.
--- BREAK ---
Welcome to the final-final of our project at Bri's place. Here's the garage with a coat of primer. The opening to the back room is history. So too are the openings on the side wall we made to run the electric cables.
On the inside we put the remaining laminate on the lower landing. From Bri's original purchase, we ended up with zero planks left over. That's cutting it kinda close.
Here's the upper landing. The stain evened out the different woods and the white trim makes it all pop.
The view from the top. Sue touched up the white spindles at both top and bottom.
Looking down from the top shows how well the color of the stairs matches the laminate on the lower landing. Only the grain and luster show the difference.
In addition to the spindles, the lower rail got a new clear coat too.
Moldings and caulk trim everything out. A pewter metal edge was used on the side of the landing. Sue painted all the white and Jim did the staining.
Ok, now compare this shot to . . .
. . . this one. Quite a change. So that's all for now. We do have some new projects coming up. Everyone take care and we'll be in touch.
