The Sandy Springs Pub

at Jay and Trav's place.

Sue and I started building the Bar and sink base over at Jay and Trav's place.  They had purchased a secondhand table and armoire made of Indonesian rosewood to use as materials.  Above is the table in the background.

And here is the armoire.

Jay and I had fun taking it apart!

A few cuts later and we have turned the table into a bar top.

In this shot you can see a joint about midway in the top that we are gluing up into one piece.

Once it set up, Sue started sanding it down.

While Jay and I built the frame to hold it up.

We bolted it to the wall and not the floor.

That floor is just too nice and new to screw up.

Luck was with us and we had a stud in the right place to drive three lag screws into.

We added a cross brace to the short wall and tried out the bar top to see how it fit.

It fit pretty well.

The back of the armoire was cut in half and placed side by side to cover the bar frame.

Jay and I pose for a pic.

Then the top came off and Sue started applying the stain.

It needed two coats to get dark enough.

After the second coat, Sue and I fixed the top in place.

The top is screwed into both the wall and the base and turned out very sturdy.

Looks good with the kegerator and the flat screen.

The back and inside will have to wait until we get some boards fabricated at home.

Sometime in there, Jay bought a $20 woodenscreen door and a $13 hinge 'n knob set.

So we put that up too.

Then we had this corner of the table left over.

About 43" x 19".

Just the right size for the bar sink counter!

Sue and I took all the excess rosewood home to make up the sink base and the moldings needed to finish the bar.

We used the armoire shelves as the sides of the base and some extra 2x4 to frame the bottom.

All of our rosewood is pretty 'rustic'.

Little of it is square or even.

We just have to make do.

Here we have put in a piece of oak ply for the floor and put up the face frame for the base's doors.

We used the armoire doors to make the doors for the sink base.

Of course they had to be shortened a bit.

Turns out the old doors were only held together with unglued dowels!

They came apart pretty easy.

After cutting the wood down, I used my mortise cutter to sink the new holes for tenions on the top and bottom boards.

Yes, that is a square drill bit.

We used my framing clamps to glue up the new smaller doors.

Here are the doors mounted in place.

The clamps are holding the front counter molding in place while the glue dries.

This piece is almost ready for stain.

I start a new project tomorrow, so Sue will take over from here.

Till next time, everyone take care.
